Jenna Sluymer named PSAC Eastern Division Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

Sluymer becomes SU’s first weekly award winner for tennis in more than five years
Shippensburg University senior Jenna Sluymer was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by the league office, becoming the first Raider in more than five years to receive the award.
During the team’s trip to Florida during Spring Break, Sluymer won a singles match and doubles match.
Sluymer posted a three-set victory at No. 1 singles against Seton Hill. She won 7-5, 5-7, 10-7 in a close match with Cameron Beer. Sluymer rallied from a 7-2 deficit in the third-set tiebreak, winning eight straight points to claim the victory. She also won three straight games in the second set after trailing at 5-2.
Against Sioux Falls, Sluymer teamed up with fellow senior Jazmin Petrantonio at No. 2 doubles to help the Raiders secure the doubles point. The pair were down 5-4 but fought their way back to claim a 7-5 win.
It is the first PSAC weekly award of the season for Sluymer and the first weekly tennis award of her career. She is the first Raider named the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Week since Emilie Luttman was honored on April 3, 2017.
